International collaboration is a key component of Antarctic and Southern Ocean research. Antarctica has an international treaty based on international cooperation for peace and science, but there are also strong practical reasons for collaboration: the locations are extreme, remote and isolated, logistics are a challenge and resources are typically limited.
To deliver our research, the Antarctic Sea-Ice Switch (ASIS) programme has an international team, with researchers from 17 organisations from nine nations, including Aotearoa New Zealand. These partnerships expand access to specialised capabilities, enhance research capacity, align valuable in-kind resources, and help us all to deliver our research goals.
