Rafael Costa Santana

Dr Rafa Santana’s expertise is on the dynamics of ocean variability across temporal and spatial scales, with applications to wind, waves, sea ice, extreme sea levels, and marine heatwaves. His methodologies include numerical modelling, data assimilation, multi-model ensembles, extreme value statistics. In the ASIS program, Rafa is using neXtSIM-Ant, a next generation sea ice model for Antarctica that represents the fractural behaviour of sea ice. He is running a series of model experiments to evaluate the impact of future climate projections on Antarctic sea-ice variability.
